Forth Road Bridge Refurbishment
SUSPENDED SPAN UNDER DECK ACCESS (SSUDA)
The SSUDA platforms provide maintenance access to the underside of the Forth Road Bridge. After a successful trial in 2016 to improve the existing Self Suspended Under Deck Access (SSUDA) on the Forth Road Bridge, it was decided that the remaining platforms should be replaced and brought up to a similar standard.
This access is provided by seven separate walkways that run the full length of the bridge and laid end to end would total over 10km long.
The project was a refurbishment/sustainability contract that meant all items are removed from the bridge one by one, refurbished, then reinstalled in the exact same position as they were taken from. The refurbishment process included, inspection, shotblasting, stripping and re-galvanizing of the items.
Inspected, Refurbished and Shotblasted
Once all the repairs were complete the steelwork and handrails were shotblasted.
Galvanized to 85 microns
They were then galvanised to 85 microns before being delivered back on site.
Colourgalv Marine
All handrails where coated using our premium Colourgalv marine process to ensure the highest level of protection in one of the harshest marine environments in Scotland.
Fully installed on the underside of the Forth Road Bridge
The new steelwork was then fully assembled into the exact same position and reattached to the underside of the bridge. The complex nature of this project indicates the adaptability of the Colourgalv marine process and demonstrates that it can be successfully used in virtually any environment.
